Frank Lampard praises Chelsea stars despite Aston Villa draw because of Arsenal reaction

“Now it’s a tough little moment, you have to fight through it. I can’t ask for more from what the players gave, the way they worked it.”

And he continued of goalscorer Giroud, who displaced Tammy Abraham up top despite the Englishman netting three goals in his past two league games: “It was great for him to get that goal.

“He gets on the end of things in the box. We have to deliver for him and we did with great build-up for that goal. Tonight, again, just disappointed.

“All the players, nobody let me down tonight. After playing two days ago in what was a tough match for us, the attitude was great, we just didn’t quite get the rub of the green in a way.”

Lampard was quizzed about the incident leading to Villa’s goal which saw Andreas Christensen left down after clashing with Jack Grealish but insisted he has yet to see a replay.

He said: “I haven’t really seen it. I saw what I felt was a handball near us before that next to the linesman, they didn’t give it, but I haven’t seen the challenge.”

Chelsea defender Chilwell added: “Obviously he [Lampard] is more pleased than he was the other day. It’s a draw at home. We want to be winning these games, but I think the effort and performance was a lot better today.

“The mentality was the main thing that we wanted from today and that was better.
