LadBaby was contacted by Ed Sheeran over third Christmas No 1

LadBaby set out to claim a third Christmas number one this year, against all odds. The 33-year-old, real name Mark Ian Hoyle, released his third parody song Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ last month, tackling Mariah Carey for the race to Christmas number one. This week, it was announced he had won the competition for the third time, and has since been talking about this monumental achievement.

All of the proceeds made from LadBaby’s numerous number ones have all gone towards the Trussell Trust, a charity that focusses on food banks in the UK.

And following the announcement that LadBaby has won for a third time, he revealed in a recent chat that he was contacted by Ed Sheeran.

Music fans will know that Sheeran is perhaps one of the biggest names in the game, as he has had nine number one singles, and has sold over 150 million albums.

Speaking out about being texted by Sheeran, LadBaby explained: “Ed Sheeran messaged me on Instagram a couple of days ago and just said that he loves what me and my wife are doing.”

LadBaby continued: “He thinks what we do at Christmas is really important, and he hopes we do it every year.”

He confessed that the star reaching out to him was “quite a touching moment that you never expect to happen”.

The 33-year-old added: “You know, one of the world’s biggest stars sending you a message just to say ‘Good luck, we love what you’re doing for charity and keep it up’. We were blown away by that.”

Of course, LadBaby could not have achieved all he has without the support of his seemingly endless supply of fans.

Despite this, LadBaby added: “I think this’ll be the last one for us – but you know what? You never know.”

LadBaby first toyed with the idea of claiming a Christmas number one back in 2018, when he released his spoof song We Built This City.

The song told of LadBaby’s love of sausage rolls, and it obviously sparked quite the frenzy in listeners as it reached number one, beating out Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next.

Last year saw LadBaby claim 2019’s Christmas number one as well, with a second spoof song, I Love Sausage Rolls.

This year LadBaby beat Mariah Carey to the top spot, whose historic song, All I Want for Christmas Is You, reached the top ten for the first time ever.

Last month it looked like Mariah Carey could take home the win, but just weeks before Christmas, LadBaby released Don’t Stop Me Eatin’.

Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ is out now.
