Stacey Dooley: Kevin Clifton recalls telling off now girlfriend mid-dance on Strictly

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton, 37, revealed he actually told off his 2018 partner and now girlfriend Stacey Dooley, during their version of the Samba on the 16th series. While chatting about this year’s contestant Clara Amfo and Aljaž Skorjanec‘s Samba with co-stars Joanne Clifton and Lauren Oakley on his self-titled podcast, he likened the routine their own.

He and Stacey, who is taking on Danny Dyer’s The Wall along with Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood this evening, took the glitterball trophy, marking it the first time for Kevin after being a losing finalist four times before.

Gushing over the extravagant outfits, he remembered there was a bit during the dance where Stacey had cursed under her breath and he had to warn her not to swear on the BBC.

“There was a bit in the middle where she went wrong and underneath her breath she swore,” he chuckled, recalling the moment.

“You know it’s live but you can forget yourself!

But he reassured listeners that no one heard it because luckily the mic had been turned down while the couple performed.

“Underneath her breath she went, ‘Oh f**k!’ and I said to her, ‘Don’t swear on the BBC!'”

The trio laughed as his memories from his time on the show came flooding back after he announced his departure from Strictly earlier this year.

However, with coronavirus leaving the entertainment industry in tatters, rumours have surfaced that he might make a comeback.

An insider said: “Kevin’s had conversations with the BBC and said he’d consider returning to the show in the future.

“He absolutely loves Strictly and is still a massive fan of the show.

“There was no bad blood between anyone when it came to Kevin’s departure and he’d be welcomed back with open arms if he wanted to return.
