60,000 Trump supporters plot second 'inauguration' in huge protest against Joe Biden win

The event, organised in a Facebook group, is scheduled for January 20 – the same day Joe Biden will be officially sworn into the White House. Over 320,000 people have responded to the group, with around 64,300 indicating their intention to attend.

The ‘Donald J. Trump 2nd Presidential Inauguration Ceremony’ is described as an “online event” and is hosted by Ilir Chami and Evi Kokalari.

Various users have written on the page in support of the president’s claim of being wrongly denied an election victory.

A paragraph on the page says: “Disclaimer: We are a grassroots collection of private individuals 325,000 strong, showing our support for President Donald J. Trump.

“We have no affiliation with any formal organization.”

This is countered by a disclaimer from Facebook which appears high up on the group.

It says: “Joe Biden is the President-elect. He will be inaugurated as the 46th US President on January 20, 2021.”

Mr Trump has yet to concede defeat to Mr Biden, who served as Vice President to Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.

Increasing numbers of high-profile Trump supporters have urged him to accept the election loss following the Electoral College count last week.

Speaking in Delaware after his victory was confirmed, President-elect Biden said: “The rule of law, our constitution and the will of the people prevailed.

“Our democracy – pushed, tested, threatened – proved to be resilient, true and strong.”

Last week, Michael Flynn, Mr Trump’s former national security adviser, suggested the president should impose martial law and deploy the military to “rerun” the election.

Appearing on right-wing news outlet Newsmax, Mr Flynn said: “Within the swing states, if he wanted to, he could take military capabilities and he could place them in those states and basically re-run an election in those states.

“It’s not unprecedented.

“There’s people out there talking about marital law like it hasn’t been done before.

“Martial law has been instituted 64 times.”

According to The New York Times, Mr Trump asked Mr Flynn about the prospect during a White House meeting on Friday.

“At one point in the meeting on Friday, Mr. Trump asked about that idea,” the newspaper said, citing White House insiders.

Mr Trump denied this in a post on Twitter.

He wrote: “Martial law = Fake News. Just more knowingly bad reporting!”
