Sadiq Khan spoke to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain ahead of London entering Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions. Morgan questioned the science behind closing certain businesses over others while slamming the UK’s testing system he claimed “didn’t work” in its aim to help the country fight the virus.
Discussing the UK’s lockdown, Morgan said: “We know it suppressed the virus and saved a lot of lives.”
Khan replied: “But the reason we had the mass lockdown in March was to give us time to roll out the test and trace system and have mass testing.”
Morgan hit back: “But we don’t have it. It doesn’t work. The fundamental problem is the world class system doesn’t work well enough to suppress the virus.
“Only left with two options: let it run wild or lock the country down like Germany.”
