Christian Eriksen's Inter Milan move has been a DISASTER but where could he end up?

Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku inspired an incredible comeback to see Inter Milan beat Torino and 4-0 on Sunday – but once again it is Christian Eriksen who is hogging the headlines.

Eriksen has become the latest player to fall out with Inter Milan’s notoriously critical boss, Antonio Conte – fuelling much speculation over his future at the club.

He has made just four starts for Inter after joining the club for £17.5million just under a year ago, and could depart as early as January.

The Nerazzurri are willing to cut their losses with the Danish international as their chief executive, Giuseppe Marotta, suggested that they are willing to allow Eriksen to leave in the next transfer window.

‘Conte has already spoken about it thoroughly. I can just add that we do not certainly have to force a player to stay when he asks to leave,’ Marotta told DAZN.

‘We will have to evaluate the situation. Now he is available for Conte, who has been making him play in [Eriksen’s] respect and in the club’s respect.

‘Up to now, we have not received any request from Eriksen, but at the right time we will try to find the right combinations.’

Luckily for Eriksen, he is still in high demand following a disastrous stint in the Italian League and could feature in another European top-flight in the new year.

Sportsmail have taken a look at Eriksen’s most likely destinations. From Arsenal, to AC Milan, to a return to Tottenham we have covered all potential suitors and their reasons for eyeing the Danish playmaker.

Paris Saint Germain

PSG have an attacking system that allows them to dominate possession and attack well in the final third, but their style is still far from perfect.

The French Champions need an attack-minded midfielder who can play line-breaking passes from a deeper position.

PSG’s sporting director Leonardo has expressed his interest at bringing Eriksen into the fold.

The Parisiens have struggled to fill their defensive midfield role following the transfer of Blaise Matudi to Juventus and the retirement of Thiago Motta’s following a stories seven-year stint at the club.

Eriksen is a world-class playmaker with fantastic vision that would provide the attacking prowess that their defensive midfield is currently lacking.

With the possibility of Kylian Mbappe leaving at the end of the season, PSG recognise the importance of upgrading their attacking options and believe Eriksen’s quality would have the power to take their offence to another level.

Should Eriksen transfer to PSG, they will be hoping he will be able to recreate his  incredible International Champions Cup goal from 2017 for the French side.

Borussia Dortmund

Despite sitting second in the Bundesliga table, Dortmund are in need of some serious January investments.

Dortmund currently sit one point behind leaders Bayern Munich, but have struggled to hit the heights expected of them.

Having failed to reach the last 16 in the Champions League after claiming just two points in their group, Dortmund have been strongly linked with an Eriksen swoop.

Eriksen has shown the German side what he is capable of, having played Dortmund on four occasions in the Champions League and emerging victorious following each.

The prospect of Eriksen providing through balls to Erling Haaland is enough to make any fan foam at the mouth, but it his ability to enhance the overall quality of Lucien Favre’s starting XI that makes his such hot property.

His attacking variety and guaranteed stability will extract the best from Dortmund’s summer signings Thomas Meunier, Jude Bellingham and Emre Can.

Chelsea

Eriksen has always enjoyed playing against Chelsea – having previously stated his favourite goal came at Stamford Bridge for Tottenham in 2018 when he fired home from outside the box.

But Chelsea will be hoping the former Tottenham man will change his mindset from playing against the Blues to playing for them.

Chelsea cannot afford to end another window without a defensive midfielder. As it stands, the responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea have become over-reliant on Kante – who is the only Blues player capable of filling the role – causing the 29-year-old to suffer a series of injuries.

Not to mention the fact that Kante is not disciplined enough to play in the lone holding role and could benefit from a partner.

Eriksen is much more experienced in that position, having featured in the middle for the majority of his career.

Although Eriksen sees himself as an attacking midfielder, he has become defensively diligent and developed an aggressive yet disciplined approach to his role.

He is calm under pressure, strong on the ball, an exceptional passer and reads the game well. All attributes that Frank Lampard is looking for in that position.

Having spent a vast amount in the summer transfer window, Lampard is looking for his Chelsea side to reach new heights this season.

The addition of Eriksen will maximise the potential of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Mason Mount as they will have the freedom to express themselves with a world-class player in behind them.

Arsenal

Eriksen could be the answer to Mikel Arteta’s midfield problems following the failed impact of his summer signings.

Arsene Wenger was able to reply on the ‘invincible’ partnership of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva during his glory days…while Arteta is currently struggling to find any sort of consistency in his midfield.

Thomas Partey has not only taken time to settle at the Emirates, but has also suffered with injury. While, Dani Ceballos has ruffled a few feathers after fighting with David Luiz at training.

Arteta even looked to move Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang into a central role in a bid to help his side find their attacking prowess against Leeds…but it proved to be another disastrous decision for the Gunners.

The next generation of Arsenal midfielders need to be creative playmakers that can feed effective balls through to their strikers –  all attributes that Eriksen possesses.

Eriksen could find himself taking on such a role at the Emirates as Inter are keen to complete a swap deal with Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.

As Conte has decided to play Arturo Vidal, Marcelo Brozovic, Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic ahead of Eriksen, the Italian club are open to replacing him at the San Siro with Xhaka.

However, it has been reported that Xhaka is happy at Arsenal and is unwilling to engage in transfer negotiations.

Tottenham

Despite making it clear he wanted to leave Spurs last summer, Eriksen has been linked with a return to his former club.

Eriksen joined Tottenham at the start on the 2013-2014 season from Ajax for around £11million.

He settled into life in London quickly and began to make a name for himself. However, it was under Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2014 that Eriksen began to excel.

He became a dominant Premier League creator and allowed the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to hit the heights of stardom.

Not only would fans welcome Eriksen back to the club, but the likes of Alli would be excited by the prospect of his return.

Alli has struggled to hit the heights expected of him under new boss Jose Mourinho and could do with the creative supply from Eriksen.

It is believed Tottenham have already opened negotiations with Inter Milan over a deal to bring him back to the club in January.

AC Milan

In the world of football, it is regarded as treason to transfer to a rival club, but such a move could be on the cards for Eriksen.

Eriksen has been linked with various Serie A clubs – including Juventus, Lazio and Roma- but most notably AC Milan.

AC Milan already have the likes of Ismael Bennacer and Hakan Calhanoglu in their midfield, but it is believed they are looking to add Eriksen to their ranks.

Eriksen’s ability to advance up the pitch would give Milan as alternative attacking dimension as many of their current options preferring to sit deeper.
