Speaking after the game, Conte told DAZN: ‘I believe he [Lukaku] can still get stronger.

‘I described him as a rough diamond when he arrived and felt that work would help him become one of the best strikers in the world.

‘He is on the right track, as he has everything, the physicality of a centre-forward, but also the pace and power of an American Football quarterback.

‘He is doing well, has understood what needs to be done, is humble and works for the team. I am very happy with him.’

Lukaku’s 16th-minute goal against Bologna not only helped Inter move within two points of Serie A leaders AC Milan, but also saw the Belgian reach a personal milestone.

Lukaku has scored a total of eight goals in his first nine league appearances this season.

Lukaku has also found the net in all of his first four home appearances in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign – joining Christian Vieri as one of the only Inter players to achieve the feat.

As a result, Inter are keen to open transfer talks with the forward in order to secure his future at San Siro.

Lukaku’s impressive form has attracted various clubs, including Serie A rivals Juventus.

Although Lukaku’s current contract is due to run until the summer of 2024, it is believed Inter are already beginning negotiations to tie him down with a new contract.
