Grosjean is alive because of F1’s desire over many years to improve safety and their investment to achieve it. Football, among others, could borrow from that principle.

Perhaps it was no surprise they then lacked the sense to accept his request to be removed.

He is great value and by any measure British football is lucky to have him. But the whining has become a little tedious and not always administered with the sharpest aim. His exchange with BT Sport’s Des Kelly about the apparent evils of broadcast deals was a rare defeat for the Liverpool manager.
