Phillip Schofield: This Morning star speaks of marriage 'progress' after coming out as gay

Phillip Schofield, 58, movingly addressed his sexuality back in February while on This Morning with co-host Holly Willoughby. The ITV host remains married to wife Stephanie Lowe, the mother of their two children, and is still residing in their family home.

In a new interview with BBC Radio Five Live, he divulged: “We love each other massively.

“We are a loving family, that hasn’t changed… it’s us four but different.

“We are a work in progress. I’ve been very honest about all of this and there’s no question, we have to pick our way through this daily as a family.

“And that’s what we are doing. We are making our way through very unusual and unexpected waters.”

Phillip told his Stephanie’s parents just before Christmas that he was gay, as he cleaned the kitchen in preparation for a family meal.

He revealed: “But just before Christmas, well during Christmas, I was cleaning – I clean, when I’m stressed, I tidy up – so I was cleaning a surface at Christmas, wiping it down and Jill, my wonderful mother-in-law, said, ‘You are the perfect man, you know’.

“And I just said, ‘No Jill, no I’m not’, but it was the sweetest thing to say. So yeah, big support from them.”

Chris then read out a text message Phillip received from his father-in-law John, which said: “I may be your pa-in-law but think of me as your surrogate pa, and long may it continue… As long as Steph’s OK we don’t have a problem.”
