Strictly Come Dancing backlash as judges 'over mark' Jamie Laing: 'How embarrassing'

Tonight the Strictly Come Dancing contestant took on Movie Week and Jamie Laing and his professional partner Karen Hauer performed the Charleston to Zero to Hero from Disney film Hercules. The pair were full of energy and enthusiasm, which thrilled judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas. But their scoring left viewers baffled.

Jamie dressed as hero Hercules for the fast-paced routine and left the judges, and host Tess Daly, laughing non-stop.

Motsi said of the routine: “What a comeback! What a comeback! That was really funny.

“Like in a good way, it was entertaining. You got the character on point.

“You know Jamie I am surprised, you were light on your feet and in the middle it just went over, I can’t explain but you did it right.”

Craig added: “Oh my God! LOL darling. You need to, in the Charleston, you do need to hit the lines, and hit your foot.

“You need to get that foot up, it was all very tight and mini.”

The judge explained Jamie needs to “loosen up” a little more as the weeks go on.

Meanwhile, head judge Shirley said Jamie came back from last week’s dance-off with a “massive improvement” before chanting “Hercules!”

“Shirley gave Jamie an 8 and 7 for Maisie. How embarrassing. #Strictly,”a third tweeted, as a fourth shared: “23???? Oh come ON!!! Barely even recognisable as a #Charleston #Strictly.”

A fifth posted: ”i’m still confused on how jamie got a higher score than harvey wtf #strictly.”

Ahead of tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing, Bill Bailey’s odds of winning were dramatically slashed.

After wowing the judges with his Quickstep last week to Talk To The Animals, Bill is now one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

He’s hot on the heels of Maisie Smith and HRVY who have been at the top of the leaderboard for the previous two weeks.

Bookmakers have now made the comedian just 11/4 in the betting, putting him right behind Maisie (9/4) and HRVY (5/2), with every other name being 10/1 in the betting.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We originally had Bill Bailey priced as a rank 33/1 outsider for this year’s Glitterball Trophy but it looks like the comedian might have the last laugh if the latest odds are anything to go by.”

Meanwhile, JJ Chalmers is the bookies favourite to be eliminated tonight with his odds of being booted out now evens.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday on BBC One at 7.25pm.
