US Election: Trump claims he CAN still win election – 'If you count the legal votes I won'

President Trump added that “if you count the illegal votes they can try to steal the election”. The Trump campaign has already announced it will sue in key battleground states that Joe Biden has won.

During Thursday night’s White House speech, Mr Trump said: “If you count the legal votes, I easily win.

“If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us.”

President Trump also blasted that there was no Democratic “blue wave” across America.

He said: “We won by historic numbers. And the pollsters got it knowingly wrong, they got it knowingly wrong.

“We had polls that were so ridiculous and everybody knew it at the time. There was no blue wave that they predicted.”

President Trump and his competitor Joe Biden are both confident they are on the path to win the US election.

Vote counting in still taking place in key battleground states that are expected to decide the winner of the election.

Mr Trump’s speech at the White House came after Mr Biden told Americans to be patient and calm as they await the final results.

On Thursday afternoon, Mr Biden said: “Democracy is sometimes messy. It sometimes requires a little patience as well.

“So I ask everyone to stay calm, all people to stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed and we’ll know very soon.”

During Mr Trump’s Thursday speech, he claimed that “mail-in ballots are one-sided”.

The president has previously made false claims that postal voting was more vulnerable to fraud and instead encourage his supporters to not vote by post.
