Demonstrations broke out in a number of US states last night as uncertainty gripped the US presidential election. The unrest in Oregon prompted the state’s Governor to send in the National Guard to help quell the “widespread violence”.
Riots broke out in Portland, the largest city in Oregon, leading to 10 arrests by police.
Officers said they seized fireworks, hammers and a rifle after late-night demonstrations.
In response to the demonstrations, Oregon Governor Kate Brown activated the state’s National Guard.
Demonstrations were also seen in several other US cities on Wednesday night, as activists chanted their vote counts and denounced voter fraud.
Protestors gathered outside an election centre in Arizona, some armed with rifles and handguns, chanting “stop the steal” and “count my vote”.
On election night, Fox News and the Associated Press called Arizona for Biden, even though only just over 70 percent of the vote had been counted, a move that infuriated Donald Trump and his supporters.
People also gathered in other cities, including Atlanta, Detroit, New York and Oakland.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) said it made about 50 arrests in protests that spread in the city late on Wednesday.
It comes after incumbent President Donald Trump claimed “a very sad group of people” is trying to disenfranchise millions of his supporters who voted for him on.
Speaking from the White House on Wednesday morning, he said: “This is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner – so we will be going to the US Supreme Court.
“We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4am and add them to the list. It is a very sad moment.”

8.30am update: Nevada will stand firm against any legal challenges
President Donald Trump’s campaign put into action its legal strategy it had hinted at introducing for weeks.
The team have attacked the integrity of the voting process in states where the result could mean his defeat.
Legal challenges were filed in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia on Wednesday.
The new filings joined existing Republican legal challenges in Pennsylvania and Nevada.
But Nevada remains confident that the state is “impenetrable” to legal challenges, according to the state’s Attorney General.
Aaron Ford said: “We feel quite invulnerable, if you take a look at the track record we’ve already established against Mr Trump.
“We actually have safeguards to prevent fraud, such as signature verification and unique barcodes, that are also part and parcel of the process here… We think it’s pretty impenetrable when it comes to legal challenge against us.”
8am update: Elections building closes after protests erupt outside
Officials have decided to close the Maricopa County Elections Department building in Arizona over concerns for the group of Trump supporters outside.
Protestors said there was a reason for people to be concerned for their safety because Arizona’s “an open carry state.”
They did not make specific threats or actions like firing off gun shots, lighting things on fire, or looting, but people are on edge, according to CNN.
Despite the closure of the building, counting will continue.
