Real Madrid 'not planning on making any signings in January' due to harsh financial reality

Real Madrid ‘not planning on making any signings in January’ as Spanish giants adjust to harsh financial reality amid the coronavirus pandemic… and they will only enter market if they can sell Luka Jovic, Mariano Diaz and Co

  • Real Madrid have been heavily affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic
  • A spate of wage cuts last season attempted to stabilise their financial dilemma
  • But the club are still left tackling the issue and will not splash the cash in January
  • The likes of Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz may yet be offloaded to free up funds

Real Madrid are unlikely to be active in the January transfer window with the club still adjusting to the grim financial fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports.

The LaLiga giants are understood to currently be finishing off their budget for this season and directors are still faced with tackling a predicted shortfall of £200million.

As a result, Marca believe that Madrid will once again be forced to veer away from splashing the cash unless they can offload unwanted first-team players.

Despite an initial glimmer of promise, the global health dilemma has once again entered crisis territory with a worrying spike in cases in most countries.

It is no different in Spain, where games will continue to be held without supporters.

Madrid have played their behind closed doors fixtures at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, the ground based at their training complex, rather than the Bernabeu.

The combination of no match day income, coupled with the uncertain nature of the market, has made the club a ‘prisoner’ of the situation, the same publication insists.

The likes of Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz, both outcast strikers, may free up funds to allow Madrid to invest but that appears unlikely.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have struggled at points during the early stages of the new season, having fallen to defeats to new boys Cadiz and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

The need for new faces is clear but it is said that the club’s hierarchy are not willing to unsettle the stability at the Bernabeu.

Having wrestled the top flight crown from Barcelona last campaign, the pressure is on for Zidane to deliver more titles again this time around.

The 48-year-old may be free to weigh up potential arrivals, however, but with a view to wrapping up those deals for next season instead.

Madrid’s squad gave up around £59million in wages and bonuses last term due to the pandemic – and it has been suggested respecting this gesture is a priority for the club over making new signings in such testing conditions.
