Yellowstone season 4 theories: Kayce survival 'sealed' as fans spot gun clue

Kayce Dutton was last seen cowering away from oncoming shooters in the final moments of Yellowstone’s third season finale. Before the Western drama returns to Paramount and Peacock next year, fans have spotted some revealing clues which could seal his survival.

The Dutton family fell victim to a series of brutal attacks in the final minutes of Yellowstone season three.

Viewers are still recovering from the horrific events of the finale this summer, as it is still unclear if John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family survived the ordeal.

While cutthroat daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly) may suffer the worst fate after being hit by an explosive delivery, the jury is still out on her brother, Kayce (Luke Grimes).

As John and Beth were both targeted, Kayce was also singled out in the series of attacks.

Before the credits rolled, gunmen burst into his office and opened fire, Kayce’s quick thinking to flip over his desk the only thing coming between him and a storm of deadly rounds.

While there’s still a chance Kayce could be fatally injured or even killed when Yellowstone heads into season four, many fans are unconvinced the series would kill off such a prominent character.

Moreover, some key clues in the ensuing gun fight and Kayce’s hurried phone call with wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) may have already sealed his survival.

During the finale’s resulting fallout, fans recently took to Reddit to try and pick up the pieces.

Additionally, Kayce was on the phone with his wife Monica before the gunmen rudely interrupted their conversation.

As the episode cuts to Monica’s end of the call, some distinct sounds are heard which may have already revealed the results of the surprise attack.

The viewer went on: “If you listen closely to Monica’s end of the phone, you hear two distinct pistol shots.

“It sounds like there was a burst of automatic fire, but after listening repeatedly it’s the music that gets increasingly louder.”

Throughout the three seasons of Yellowstone, Kayce has already demonstrated sharpshooting proficiency with firearms.

Furthermore, this fan argued the sequence left ample time for Kayce to duck behind cover and open fire on his assailants.

Fans have also asserted similar clues can be applied to John and Beth’s attacks, seemingly confirming their returns in the upcoming fourth season.

Although John was caught in the crossfire, his mobile phone apparently stopped a fatal bullet from penetrating his heart, while Beth may have been too far away from the explosion to have caught the full blast.

Whatever their fates, things will surely never be the same for the Dutton family as Yellowstone heads into a daunting new chapter.

Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
