Anton du Beke apologises to fans as he shares ‘very sad’ news ahead of Strictly launch

Anton du Beke, 54, has taken the opportunity to send his “huge apologies” to fans after making an announcement with his dance partner and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Erin Boag, 45. The dancer revealed his tour with Erin “very sadly” had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The disappointing news comes just days before Anton is set to appear on the Strictly 2020 launch show.

The star wrote in view of his 249,000 Twitter followers: “My loves, important news from @ErinBoag and myself regarding our 2021 tour, Showtime: very sadly this has now been postponed to 2022 due to Covid-19.

“Huge apologies – we’ve all been looking forward to it so much!

“Please see the video for more info. Much love, stay safe, Anton X.”

Anton and Erin went on to address their plans to rearrange the tour in a video.

Erin began by saying: “Hello everyone, I hope you and your family and your loved ones are doing well in this difficult year.”

Anton added: “We were so grateful to see so many of you for our 2020 tour Magical Movies and we were looking forward so much to seeing you next year.”

“But due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation we are very sorry to say that this will now not be possible and Showtime will sadly be postponed to 2022,” Erin explained.

Elsewhere, Anton joked he may not have won Strictly yet due to his birthday being in July.

During the BBC show’s Best Of episode, Anton hosted a quiz with his fellow stars and discovered that September was the month three winning celebrities were born in.

He asked his fellow pros: “What birth month has provided the most Strictly celebrity champions?”

The pros put forward their guesses suggesting the likes of September, November, December and May.
