Leicester ‘preparing transfer bid for in-demand Swansea centre back Joe Rodon’… after Tottenham had £7m offer rejected for Wales international on deadline day

  • Joe Rodon is interesting a number of Premier League clubs in recent weeks
  • Tottenham had a surprise £7m bid for the 22-year-old rejected on deadline day
  • Leicester are now interested – but Swansea have set an asking price of £20m
  • A deal can still be reached with the domestic transfer window closing on Friday

Leicester are reportedly interested in Swansea’s highly-rated centre back Joe Rodon, who was the subject of a late deadline day bid from Tottenham.

Spurs are still keen on the 22-year-old and offered £7million plus add-ons to Swansea, who are looking for a fee closer to the region of £20million.

With the domestic transfer window not closing until October 16 – this Friday – a deal can still be arranged in the coming days and now Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes have joined the race for the Wales international and are preparing a transfer bid, according to The Sun

The report details that the Leicester boss would actually prefer to sign Rodon in January – or next summer – but the defender himself is keen to play in the Premier League as soon as possible.

Leicester are keen also to allow summer signing Wesley Fofana time to settle in at the King Power before potentially bringing in another defender.

West Ham United, who had numerous bids for Burnley centre back James Tarkowski turned down over the summer, are also keeping an eye on Rodon’s situation, as are Sheffield United.

Using Ben Godfrey’s £20m move from Norwich to Everton this summer as a barometer, the Swans feel as though they are not being overly-demanding by setting a similar asking price for one of their prized assets.

The centre back is a product of the Swansea academy and broke into the first-team in 2018.

He has since made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Swans, with all of them coming while Swansea have been in the second tier.

He was called up to the senior Wales squad for the first time in 2018 though did not make his appearance until a year later – with his international bow coming in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Azerbaijian.

Rodon started in Wales’ 3-0 defeat to England in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday night and could feature for Ryan Giggs’ side against Ireland on Sunday in their UEFA Nations League clash.
