Mr Trump’s top physician revealed he was given a steroid and put on oxygen as a treatment for coronavirus after he was admitted to the medical center. Dr. Brian Garibaldi, one of the doctor’s on Mr Trump’s team, said plans have been in action to increase the President’s mobility following the coronavirus diagnosis.
He said: “Our plan for today is to have him to eat and drink, be up out of bed as much as possible, to be mobile.
“And if he continues to look and feel as well as he does today, our hope is that we can plan for a discharge as early as tomorrow to the White House where he can continue his treatment course.”
He also said that Trump would continue taking doses of Remdesivir, a broad-spectrum antiviral medication, and dexamethasone, a steroid, whether he remains at Walter Reed or is transferred to the White House.
The leading doctor spoke out just before Mr Trump left Walter Reed hospital at around 5.30pm in a car.
The US President surprised supporters with a friendly wave and thumbs up from the car.
He later returned to hospital, where he is receiving treatment for COVID-19, the White House announced.
The White House has released a statement about Mr Trump’s brief drive outside the hospital where he is being treated for Covid-19.
“President Trump took a short, last-minute motorcade ride to wave to his supporters outside, and has now returned to the Presidential Suite inside Walter Reed,” the statement says.

He added: “I learned a lot about COVID, I learned it by really going to school – this is the real school.”
Meanwhile, UKIP founder Nigel Farage praised Mr Trump for his surprise appearance.
Mr Farage tweeted: “No other Western leader would go and visit the crowds outside their hospital like this.
“He will be back better than ever.”
The tweet sparked a flood of responses in support of the US president.
One user said: “He’s going to win big league.
“He’s a true hardworking patriotic man.
The people’s champ, he never gives in and loves what he doing and loves America.”
However, the stunt has proved contentious for others.
A doctor who works at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland where the president is being treated, called the stunt “completely unnecessary.”
Dr James Phillips of the Walter Reed hospital claimed staff had been “commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk.”
He added the presidential SUV is “not only bulletproof, but hermetically sealed against chemical attack,” and so “the risk of COVID-19 transmission inside is as high as it gets outside of medical procedures.”
