What stops spiders coming into your house?

There are no dangerous spiders in the UK, thankfully, but that doesn’t mean we all want these critters crawling about in our homes. Spider sightings are on the up at the moment because it is their mating season. Express.co.uk reveals what stops spiders coming into your house.

What stops spiders coming into your house?

Spider catcher

You heard us right. Spider catchers are a real thing.

You can buy them online or in plenty of home-ware, hardware and furnishing stores.

It’s not as cruel as it sounds, the vacuum is very gentle and you can simply drop the spider off outside.

No spiders are harmed in the process!

Citrus and essential oils

Spiders hate citrus, so use this to your advantage.

Lucy Askew from Hilarys.co.uk said: “It’s believed that spiders detest the smell of citrus fruits, so try placing slices of fresh lemon or lime or rubbing the peel of either across your window sills and doors as a natural bug repellent.

“If lemon isn’t the scent for you, you could also try some essential oils, such as peppermint, cinnamon or tea tree oil, to keep the spiders away.”

This way your home will smell delightful and will be spider-free.

Close windows

Spiders come from outdoors, obviously, so why are you letting them in? Keep your windows shut.

Lucy from Hilarys explained: “Typically, nocturnal creatures, spiders typically go on the search for a warm atmosphere where they can find food, shelter and mating opportunities once the sun sets.

“If you or anyone else you live with is in the habit of keeping a bedroom window open when you sleep, despite the recent drop in temperatures, have a word.

“It’s definitely worth keeping them closed for the foreseeable future and relying on a fan to stay cool at night!

“Yes, your electricity bill will rise slightly, but your house is less likely to have extra inhabitants.”
