Hungary travel: Is Budapest on UK quarantine list?

Budapest normally attracts masses of tourists from all over Europe and the world, but this summer has been a bit of a strange one for holidaymakers. At first, travel restrictions were lifted meaning people flocked to holiday abroad. But, as time went on, a number of countries reported increasing coronavirus cases meaning quarantine restrictions were imposed, ruining holidays for hundreds of thousands of people.

Is Budapest on the UK’s quarantine list?

As it stands, yes, Budapest is on the UK’s quarantine list as it’s located in Hungary.

The restrictions have been in place since Saturday, September 12.

That means if you do want to go to Budapest or anywhere else in Hungary, you will be forced to quarantine for 14 days upon your return to England.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the changes on September 10, hailing how “enhanced data” meant the Government can make clearer decisions.

The list of countries Brits can travel to and come back without quarantining is down to just nine now.

Denmark, Iceland, Slovakia and the Caribbean island of Curacao were the latest countries to be scrapped from the air bridges exemption list.

While there are still more than 60 countries on the UK’s safe list, many have their own restrictions on arrival or have closed their borders completely, much like Hungary.

That means holidays are only currently possible without any restrictions to Germany, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Turkey, mainland Greece, Gibraltar, San Marino and Liechtenstein.
