Man Utd closing in on second summer signing with Alex Telles transfer 'very close'

Alex Telles looks set to become Manchester United’s second summer signing and a deal is very close, according to reports in Portugal. The left-back has emerged as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target at full-back as he looks to bring in addition competition for Luke Shaw.

Heading into the transfer window, United were not set on signing a left-back but they have since decided to bolster their defensive options in a bid to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

The club held talks with Real Madrid over a deal for Sergio Reguilon but eventually decided against the move.

Reguilon was said to be keen on joining United and look destined to move to Old Trafford before Real Madrid demanded the inclusion of a buyback clause in his contract.

United then cooled their interest and allowed Tottenham to seal a £27million deal alongside the return of Gareth Bale on loan.

The report claims Telles has agreed a five-year contract with United which will see him earn around £3.6million per year.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed United are confident of concluding the deal for the 27-year-old and have told another potential target’s agent that they will sign the Porto star.

“There was also another name and I will only say his name if Manchester United really go for him and not Alex Telles,” he said on the Here We Go podcast.

“But what we can say to our listeners is that last Friday Manchester United board had a meeting with an agent, talking about the opportunity of signing another left-back.
