Barcelona want to BLOCK Luis Suarez from joining Atletico Madrid for free as they try to add their LaLiga rivals to the ‘vetoed list’ of clubs he can’t join in his contract termination deal – alongside Real Madrid, Man City and PSG

  • Luis Suarez has been told he does not have a future at Barcelona beyond summer
  • He was linked with Juventus but they have now signed Alvaro Morata on loan
  • Atletico Madrid are the favourites now but Barca have put the brakes on the deal
  • Reports claim they are trying to add rivals to a list of ‘vetoed clubs’ he can’t join

Barcelona are attempting to put the brakes on Atletico Madrid’s deal to sign striker Luis Suarez by adding their rivals to a list of ‘vetoed clubs’ he can’t sign for.

It appears the Uruguayan has no future at Barcelona beyond this summer, with the club trying to clear him from their wage bill, but Nou Camp chiefs are reportedly being very specific about who he can and can’t sign for.

Onda Cero report that Barcelona are trying to add Atletico Madrid – the favourites for his signature – to a list of ‘vetoed clubs’ that he can’t join, alongside Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Although Barca want rid of him, it appears they are worried about him scoring against them for a direct rival this season, and fear that happening after losing him on a free transfer.

Therefore, Atletico Madrid are also eyeing a move for Edinson Cavani this summer in case their deal for Suarez falls through in the latter stages.

Cavani is a player that has been linked with Diego Simeone and Atletico consistently over the past few seasons.

Suarez, meanwhile, is still in limbo and waiting to learn his next club, with a move to Juventus seemingly off the cards.

The striker arrived in Italy last week to complete an exam to secure dual nationality, but it appears his failure to secure an Italian passport quickly might stop that move from happening this summer.

Instead, Juve have secured a deal for Alvaro Morata on loan, clearing the way for Suarez to join Atletico – if Barca allow it to happen.

Onda Cero’s report claims that Suarez and Barcelona have reached an agreement to cancel his contract, but the signing has yet to take place and this latest twist in events could change things.

It has been reported that Simeone is desperate to get Suarez through the door to add some much-needed firepower to his Atletico team.

If the deal does go through, Suarez would sign for two seasons and receive a net salary of £8.3m in each of them.
