Arsenal are reportedly set to sell players on the cheap or loan them out at the last minute, it has been claimed. The Gunners have enjoyed a good transfer window by landing Pablo Mari, Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes. But Mikel Arteta is still eyeing Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar late in the day.

Arsenal appear to be a team very much on the up under Arteta.

Few thought the Spaniard could succeed at the club when he took over from Unai Emery in the year, with the Gunners’ slide down the English footballing pyramid showing no signs of slowing down.

In the time since, however, Arteta has got things right. Both on and off the pitch.

He’s steered the club to FA Cup and Community Shield titles during his time at the club and also oversaw their 3-0 win over Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Off the pitch they appear to have recruited well, too, with both Willian and Gabriel shining in the win over the Cottagers on Saturday afternoon.

And The Athletic say that, with the transfer timer trickling down, a few last-minute cheap loans and exits are ‘probable’.

Arsenal aren’t done on the signings front yet, with Arteta still hoping to add Aouar and Partey to his ranks before the transfer window shuts on October 5.

Aouar sparkled for Lyon last season, helping them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League where they were eventually beaten by Bayern Munich.

He’s determined to leave the Ligue 1 side behind, too, though Manchester City and Juventus are both admirers as well.

Regarding Partey, the Ghana international is ‘intrigued’ by the prospect of playing under Arteta at Arsenal.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the summer window so far

But the north London giants currently don’t have the funds to sign either player and, therefore, several departures could yet take place.

Rob Holding’s future has been up in the air but he impressed in the Fulham win and could stay despite Newcastle being hot on his trail.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos was ruled out the Premier League opener and could be shown the door too, while the likes of Lucas Torreira, Alexandre Lacazette and Ashley Maitland-Niles have all been tipped to depart.

Meanwhile, Arteta recently opened up on potential transfer business by saying: “We are looking at different options.

“I would say we are active in the market for players in and out.

“At the moment the squad balance is not the ideal we want to achieve so there is still some work to do.

“We have to bear in mind the complication with this transfer market and the complexity and the timing.

“You can see that clubs are behaving in many different ways and it is a little bit uncertain how this will work in the next few weeks.

“It’s going to be very difficult to achieve what we want in one window or two windows.

“It is a process, it has to evolve and most importantly it has to be a sustainable model that we can consistently feed in using our academy players.”
