Ivanka Trump rages at protesters as officers injured in shooting are blocked from hospital

Ms Trump responded to an incident last night where two Los Angeles Country Sheriff Deputies, shot in their vehicles by an unknown individual, were blocked from entering hospital. US President Donald Trump and other officials have also reacted to the shooting, condemning the violence towards the officials. The police department has offered a $100,000 (£78,092.50) reward for information on the shooter.

Ms Trump tweeted her sympathies to the deputies, as well as hitting out at people celebrating the shooting.

She said: “Please pray for these two Sheriff Deputies.

“All Americans should be outraged by the senseless violence directed at the men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day to keep our families and communities safe.”

The Trump daughter posted her comments with a message from the department which claimed protesters blocked the entrance to the hospital.

LA County Sheriffs department claimed on Twitter protesters chanted “we hope they die” as the deputies arrived at hospital.

They added: “Do not block emergency entries & exits to the hospital.

“People’s lives are at stake when ambulances can’t get through.”

Video’s posted by onlookers showed a crowd of four people outside the hospital, with one NPR reporter covering the incident.

The reporter, along with one protester, was arrested.

Mr Trump also commented on the shooting, and savaged the gunman.

He said the gunman was one of many “animals that must be hit hard”.

In response to his son’s, Donald Trump Jr, post calling for prayers for the deputies, Mr Trump said: “If they die, fast trial death penalty for the killer.

“Only way to stop this!”

Mr Trump has made “law and order” central to his re-election campaign, and has frequently attacked Democrats for wanting to “defund the police”.

Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva also commented on the shooting, and called the act “cowardly”.

He added: “This is just a sombre reminder that this is a dangerous job.

“Actions, words have consequences and our job does not get easier because people don’t like law enforcement,”

Joe Biden, Democrat nominee for President, added: “This cold-blooded shooting is unconscionable and the perpetrator must be brought to justice.

“Violence of any kind is wrong; those who commit it should be caught and punished.”
