Apple has finally announced when its blockbuster September launch will take place and there’s really not long left to wait. The big event will get underway at 6pm on September 15, 2020 and one of the headline announcements could be the release of an all-new iPad Air.

Of course, Apple always stays tight-lipped about exactly what it plans to reveal during its media events, but rumours suggest the popular tablet is about to get a major makeover with a design upgrade that’ll make it look far more like the pricier iPad Pro models.

A recent post from the team at 9to5mac (via Duan Rui) even claims to show an instruction manual for the iPad Air with images revealing a device that’s free from the usual chunky bezels and circular Home Button with Touch ID sensor that graces the current variant.

Instead, it seems users could get a display that pushes closer to the edges of the device giving them more space for their content without the tablet’s overall size getting any bigger. Other rumours about the 2020 Air include a faster processor, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, updated single-lens rear camera and an easy way to connect accessories such as a smart keyboard.

It looks like Apple will bundle support for its second-generation Apple Pencil stylus (the current iPad Air only supports the first-generation model) which offers a more lifelike drawing and writing experience and charges wirelessly by sticking magnetically to the side of the iPad itself.

If Apple can produce this new tablet for the same £479 price as the current Air model it’s sure to be a surefire hit as it means Apple fans will be able to get their hands on the same stunning Pro design without the high price tag.

But with the current-generation model still selling for £479 in the Apple Store, it’s well worth holding off on any planned purchases for a few days – just to ensure you get the most for your hard-earned cash.

Hopefully, we’ll find out more in a few days time. Meanwhile, the redesigned iPad Air isn’t the only new device set to be revealed during the event.

It seems very likely the US firm could release a total of four new iPhones in three different display sizes – 5.4inch, 6.7inch and two handsets with 6.1inch screens. All of these will purportedly include support for 5G for the first time which will enable iOS users to access superfast speeds when away from fixed-line broadband.

All models could get OLED screens with a top-end Pro version rumoured to be getting a 120Hz screen for a silky smooth experience.

Other extras coming to these iPhone 12 devices may include bigger batteries, faster processors and an improved camera with a LiDAR scanner. For those who don’t know, LiDAR measures the distance to surrounding objects up to five meters away.

Finally, Apple typically sneaks a clue (or two) about what we’re likely to get during the keynote into the invite itself – and we’re guessing the “time flies” tagline included on the invite for the event on September 15 is a pretty strong hint that we’re going to see a new Apple Watch.

Whispers from the supply chain suggest we’ll see the Apple Watch Series 6 (replacing the current Series 5) as well as a new low-cost Apple Watch, which will replace the Apple Watch Series 3 (from £199) on Apple Store shelves.
