John Lennon: Can you guess The Beatles song he wrote ‘by accident’? – ‘I was TRANSFIXED’

John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote many memorable songs together during their time in The Beatles. But did you know many of their tracks just came about by chance? In a new post on the Fab Four’s official Instagram account, Lennon is quoted as saying: “Half the musical ideas I’ve had have been accidental.”

Lennon continued: “The first time I discovered backwards guitar was when we made Rain.”

The track was recording during the sessions for The Beatles’ 1966 album Revolver.

And in the end, Rain featured as the B-side on the band’s single of Paperback Writer.

While Ringo Starr considered the song to be his best recorded drum performance.

The Rolling Stones frontman continued: “[We were] doing Chuck Berry songs and blues and things.

“And we [were] a pretty scruffy lot and we thought that we were totally unique animals.

“I mean there was no one like us. And then we heard there was a group from Liverpool.

“This group, they had long hair, scruffy clothes but they had a record contract. And they had a record in the charts, with a bluesy harmonica on it, called Love Me Do.”

Jagger added: “When I heard the combination of all these things, I was almost sick.”

“Later on they gave us our first big hit in England, which was a song they wrote called I Wanna Be Your Man.

“And we were really grateful for that because that really broke us in England. But the example of the way they wrote and the original way they crafted their songs wasn’t lost on us.

“We had a lot of rivalry and a little bit of friction in those early years, but we always ended up friends and I like to think we still are.”
