After the last saddening week the country faced, a three-hour long virtual concert was just what viewers needed between Brandy and Monica. The two R&B powerhouses laid their feud to rest and played some of their greatest hits on Verzuz presented by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
Although there was definitely some obvious tension at the beginning of the celebration of music, the two seemingly warmed up to each other and even closed out the show with their 1998 hit song that started it all: The Boy Is Mine.
Monica explained to Brandy: ‘I wanted to speak to you face to face. The more we’re talked about, the more it came to be difficult, unnecessarily. And I really really am a straight shooter and I really do admire what you’ve done musically and what you’ve had to endure personally.’
While Brandy said that the feeling was mutual.
‘I have the utmost love and respect for you as well, for somebody to start at 12 years old. The longevity of your career, nobody [knows] what you’ve been through.’
The battle broke the Verzuz record by attracting over 1.2 million live viewers at one point. Countless celebrities joined as well as Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris who delivered a special message urging people to vote.
Monica pulled out a genius marketing move when she dropped her new song in the middle of the battle.
Ultimately, fans say that it was a tie between the two ladies.
Brandy joked that they should go on a joint tour which would be the smartest thing they could do once it’s safe to gather in crowds again.

‘this was so legendary and they look so beautiful!!! LOVE too see it.’ one person commented on a Shade Room Post about the battle.
‘So good on so many levels. 💕💕 it’s a tie for me,’ said Christina Milian.
