Clara Amfo speaks out on 'upsetting' mum with Strictly 2020 move 'Been frustrating'

Clara Amfo, 36, will be joining a host of famous faces in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing 2020. The radio presenter was announced today, when she spoke out about signing up to the BBC dance show and “upsetting” her mother.

Clara joins Max George, Jonathan Creek actress Caroline Quentin and former NFL player Jason Bell, who were all announced yesterday, as well as Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh and Nicola Adams, who were confirmed today.

The BBC star revealed her excitement about taking part in Strictly and admitted she is usually the first person on the dancefloor.

The radio DJ teased that she also “loves a short skirt” in a bid to “upset her mum”.

Clara, who hosts BBC Live Lounge performances, explained: “You know how when we do the Live Lounge people always say I can’t sit still.

“You know at the Christmas party I am usually the first one on the dance floor and the last one off?”

She continued: “And you know, I love a short skirt to upset my mum so guess what, I am doing Strictly Come Dancing.”

The news of Clara joining the Strictly line up was announced on Greg James’ Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

Speaking about the news, she commented: “I have been keeping this in for so long. It has been so frustrating but I am getting the sequins on.

Clara also took part in Celebrity MasterChef back in 2018.

The remaining contestants joining the new series are expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh confirmed she will be taking part in Strictly.

The TV anchor said she feared she’d be too tired for the show as she will still be working her usual job, which includes early starts.

“I’m worried about energy levels,” she admitted, as she sought advice from her co-star Susanna Reid, who took part in 2013.

The latter warned her: “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”

Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood are all expected to return to their judging roles.

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One later this month.
