Gibraltar: Holiday destination remains on travel corridor list despite rise in Covid cases

Gibraltar, which is located on Spain’s south coast, has recorded a spike in cases over the past week. However, the country has remained absent from the UK’s quarantine list. The UK government announced today that Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Jamaica would be removed from the travel corridor list.

He added: “Now we need to further control the numbers of those infected to ensure we can make an even more persuasive argument next week.”

Earlier on, Mr Picardo spoke to BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme about the possibility of Gibraltar being axed from the travel corridor list.

He explained how the country has upped its testing has no one in hospital as a result.

He said: “It’s an understandable reaction to an extrapolation of the number of infections detected.

“If you do a more detailed dive and you look at the fact that we are doing more testing than most places per head of population, then you’ll understand that we are now being very successful at identifying cases of the virus and then exercising controls in terms of imposing self-isolation, etc.”

“We’re doing a good job in detecting the virus and dealing with it.”

“We have larger numbers of the virus detected now, but we have no one in hospital, we have no one in ICU, we have no one having died from the virus, I’d say we’ve been very successful in our strategy.”
