Piers Morgan: GMB host breaks silence on 'very sad news' as he declares 'Keep battling'

TalkRadio and TalkSport broadcaster James Whale, 69, has revealed he is fighting cancer of the brain, spine, kidney and lungs after he was diagnosed two weeks ago. Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 55, expressed his sadness after branding him one of his “favourite broadcasters”.

Taking to Twitter, the ITV anchor shared a heartfelt message with his 7.6 million followers.

The GMB host retweeted a message from journalist and broadcaster Dan Wootton which read: “This is a difficult tweet to write. Radio legend @THEJamesWhale – my talkRADIO friend and colleague – has decided to share the news that after 20 years his cancer has returned.”

Piers penned: “Very sad news. One of my favourite broadcasters & a great guy. Keep battling @THEJamesWhale.”

Fans flocked to comment on the news, with many people offering their well-wishes to James.

He continued to The Sun: “I’ve got it in my spine. I’ve got it in my brain.”

Recalling his haematologist’s words, the star revealed: “The woman looked worried and she said ‘I’m so sorry. I’ve got really, really bad news for you. I’m afraid 20 years ago you had kidney cancer. Well, it looks like it’s probably come back. You’ve got a tumour on your kidney.’”

James went on to say: “And I thought, ‘OK, well, 20 years later I’ll have to do it all over again.’

“And then she said, ‘I’m sorry. Sadly it’s spread. You’ve got small lesions in your brain and your lung, in your spine, in your pituitary gland.’”

James added he hopes to return to presenting by taking pills, meaning he can avoid chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, Piers is on a break from his presenting duties on GMB and recently had to cut his summer holiday in St Tropez short.

The ITV favourite, who is set to return to work in September, hopped on a plane to fly home before the new quarantine rules came into place last weekend.

People arriving in the UK from France and The Netherlands will be forced to quarantine for 14 days amid the coronavirus pandemic.
