Peaky Blinders season 6 director teases ultimate showdown in first episode: ‘Holy sh*t’

If you weren’t already aware, Peaky Blinders season six is going to be a big one. An important one. An explosive one. You name it, it’ll probably be that.

So much so, that even director Anthony Byrne was left quaking at the knees when he was given the script for episode one.

“I checked my emails and I’d just got season six episode one from Steve and I was like ‘Sh*t do you want to know what happens’ because I didn’t know, you have to cut what you have!” he said, recalling being with another Peaky executive Paul, when screenwriter Steven Knight’s email came through.

“Paul was laid out on the couch and I ended up reading it out loud.”

Anthony revealed he’d never read a whole script aloud before but this time he made an exception, so it really must be good.

“It’s a huge undertaking to go and do this in a TV drama that doesn’t have the budget that a lot of the bigger American shows have, that we’re competing with.

“So, that’s why I can’t wait to film!”

While the team get excited about the tech stuff behind the scenes, fans are more excited to find out the villain behind Tommy Shelby’s (played by Cillian Murphey) failed plan in the last episode of season five.

Anthony giggled at the thought of us all sitting there trying to figure it out.

“When you see it, you’ll go ‘Ah OK, yeah,'” he smirked, not giving us ANYTHING to go off.

Unless you already know, in which case you have about two years to hold onto that theory before being proven right.

Until then, it really is a guessing game.

Is it someone who’s taken a backseat in previous seasons who will take centre stage this time around or will it be someone, much, much closer to home?

Peaky Blinders season 5 is streaming on Netflix UK now.
