Need to check out a house price? Land Registry can’t help as it stopped keeping tabs on sales during lockdown

  • The Land Registry said data is ‘not as representative as it usually would be’
  • That’s because far fewer property sales were completed during the past months

Official data on the rise – or fall – in property prices has been delayed because Land Registry staff stopped keeping tabs on sales during lockdown.

Would-be buyers and sellers researching sale prices in their area typically turn to websites such as Rightmove and Zoopla to get the latest figures. These figures come from the Land Registry, which records all property transactions. Usually there are 100,000 a month.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

But due to staffing issues during the lockdown, the Land Registry stopped publishing data and now has a backlog – even though far fewer property sales were completed during those months.

A spokesman for the Land Registry told The Mail on Sunday’s sister website This Is Money: ‘We are still publishing price paid data, but it is not as representative as it usually would be. We had to focus on our core service of land registration and the capturing of the house price is not part of this.

‘However, this has since resumed and each month we’re publishing more data and we’re hoping that we’ll have caught up in the next couple of releases.’

A spokeswoman at Rightmove confirmed the website was now receiving more house price information from Land Registry and that sales prices were being added to the site as quickly as possible.
