Russia showcases military might in Hollywood action movie-esque aerial display – VIDEO

Russia’s Ilyushin IL-76MD plane sparked delight as it sent a trail of flares across the sky above Migalovo, northwest of the capital city of Moscow. The incredible footage shows flares being fired out from under the wings of two aircrafts as a third followed at close distance. The display for the 90th celebration of Russia’s paratroopers’ was praised by President Vladimir Putin.

According to Sputnik News, President Putin said: “You are rightfully proud of the glorious history of the legendary ‘winged infantry’ and the Names of its founding fathers.

“Importantly, the current generation of soldiers and officers carries on with dignity the established military and patriotic traditions, holds sacred the laws of military brotherhood, and shows impeccable skills and loyalty to the Oath and the Fatherland in the most challenging emergency situations.”

The official holiday of the Soviet military’s first parachute flight, which was held during exercises near the southern Russian city of Voronezh in 1930, is held on August 2 each year.

It has since become a staple of Russia’s summertime holidays.
