Inception ending meaning ‘does NOT matter’ for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dom Cobb: Here's why

Inception’s ending was left really quite ambiguous as Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dom Cobb was reunited with his children. To make sure he wasn’t dreaming he used his spinning top. And Christopher Nolan fans will remember that if he’s truly awake, it will topple over.

However, Inception cut to black before it was clear if Dom was awake or dreaming.

Fans have long argued over the truth, but Film Critic Mark Kermode and his podcast guest Jack Howard argue it really doesn’t matter – and that’s kind of the point.

Speaking on Kermode on Film’s Christopher Nolan Special Part 3, the critic said: “It is what it is.

And the whole genius of it is exactly what it is.”

Firstly, writer-director Christopher Nolan has previously described Tenet as his most ambitious project yet; a story he’s had in development for 20 years.

Meanwhile, Inception was released 10 years almost to the day that Tenet was originally set to arrive on July 17, before its delay.

Ten years ago was 2010 and Inception had been in development for 10 years.

So the start time of that development is the same as Tenet – around the year 2000.

Secondly, none of the characters names in Tenet have been revealed.

Only John David Washington’s is known as The Protagonist, so Nolan is strangely secretive about his latest film.

And thirdly, Pattinson had to dye his hair blonde for Tenet, the same colour hair as Leo’s Dom Cobb.

Inception is re-released in UK cinemas on August 12 ahead of Tenet’s expected release on August 26, 2020.
