Chelsea's new £53m man Timo Werner takes part in his first training session

Chelsea’s new £53m man Timo Werner takes part in his first training session a day after watching his new team-mates book place in Champions League

Timo Werner took part in his first training session as a Chelsea player on Monday morning.

The German striker, who has joined in a £53million deal from RB Leipzig, touched down in England over the weekend and was at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to watch his new club beat Wolves and secure Champions League football for next season.

Werner did not train with his new team-mates with Frank Lampard giving his squad a well-deserved day off following Sunday’s victory.

The 24-year-old was put through his paces at Cobham with plenty of stretching and fitness work before focusing on ball work, dribbling and some finishing exercises.

Chelsea will not be able to register Werner until next season but the striker can now train with the club and is following the same training programme as fellow new addition Hakim Ziyech.
