Emmerdale spoilers: Cain Dingle and Moira won’t ever get back together – here’s why

Moira Barton’s (played by Natalie J Robb) life hangs in the balance after she was a victim of a hit and run earlier this month. Having been admitted to intensive care and rushed into emergency surgery, Emmerdale has revealed the farmer will survive, albeit with life-changing injuries. One person who has been by her side throughout the medical ordeal is estranged husband Cain Dingle. In scenes which aired this week, he confessed his love for Moira, and this has got many fans wondering whether or not they will get back together. Express.co.uk spoke to the actors who play Cain and Moira about this storyline and it seems there is no chance of any romantic feelings being reignited in upcoming months.

Discussing the scene where Cain stays by Moira’s bedside throughout the night, Jeff said: “We see very quickly that he’s kind of pretended that he doesn’t care as much.

“Then he goes to pretend to go to the toilet in the hospital and then Matty goes off [leaves the hospital] and Cain sneaks back into the room and he sits bedside vigil all night by Moira.

“So that act [shows] he’s still got massive feelings for Moira and I don’t think he could live his life without whether that means in a relationship or not.

“[A relationship] is not the issue, it’s more a case of he doesn’t want her to die,” he added.

Viewers know Moira surgery was pulled forward, with the outcome yet to be revealed.

However, Natalie who plays Moira spoke about the lasting damage her character will have endured because of Jamie Tate’s (Alexander Lincoln) irresponsible behaviour.

The actress told Express.co.uk: “It’s life-threatening. She’s in a bad way.

“And I think this is the reason why Cain realises how much he feels for her when he realises he may lose her,” she added.

When asked whether Cain and Moira will try again, Natalie said: “I think it [the hit and run] might draw them closer or what an outcome will be after that, I don’t know.

But just because he can’t bear losing her in his life to death, it doesn’t mean Cain wants to get back with Moira either.

After all, like Jeff said, the pair have been through an awful lot and whether or not they can both put the past behind them is another thing.

As for why the pair will always be attracted to one another, Natalie jumped in and joked: “I don’t think you should answer that Jeff!”

When he did, he divulged: “That’s stuff that we don’t see!

“I think she gives him this grounding that nobody else has ever given him because she’s such a grounded figure.

“But she also doesn’t let him get away with anything.

“They spark off each other and I think he’s never really had that before.

“She’s got a good moral compass as well, which occasionally moves into the dark side with him but she’ll do it for the right reasons,” he continued.

Natalie added: “I think they accept each other’s flaws as well to an extent.

“They accept that they make mistakes, and I just think the bond between them and the chemistry between them’s stronger than anything.”

Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm on ITV.
