Liverpool star Andy Robertson admits he is ‘sick to death’ of comparisons with Kieran Tierney: ‘A good performance and it’s one of us is better than the other’

  • Scotland captain Andy Robertson addressed comparisons with Kieran Tierney
  • The two full-backs are often debated together regarding who is the best
  • Robertson has tipped his compatriot to go on and achieve big things in football

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has admitted he is ‘sick to death’ of comparisons between himself and fellow Scot Kieran Tierney.

The Scotland captain acknowledges that links are often drawn due to a similar attacking playing style out from defence.

Yet the constant questioning of who is the better player, based on specific performances, is not something that Robertson particularly cares for.

The Liverpool man joined the Lockdown Tactics podcast to speak about the matter.

‘I’ve spoken to KT about it before,’ Robertson began.

‘Me and him are probably sick to death of everyone comparing us. One good performance from each of us and it’s one of us is better than the other.

‘It’s just two players playing at a good level.

‘It gets a bit tough when everyone in Scotland starts comparing you. Steve Clarke will have his own ideas and whatever he does it’s for the best of the team. Whether that’s playing one of us or two of us, we both have to deal with that.’

Tierney was named Scotland’s Young Player of the Year for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, while building a solid reputation for himself at Celtic.

‘KT is a fantastic player, I watch him a lot and he’s excellent at what he does,’ Robertson added.

‘He’s had a troubled time with injuries but now he’s back, he looks special.’

Tierney has played in eight of Arsenal’s nine games since the restart, and returns to action today as the Gunners face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.

Both teams are bidding for a place in the showpiece final, where they will meet either Manchester United or Chelsea.
