Google Chrome update removes a feature you'll hate to see disappear

Usually, updates to Google Chrome bring a host of new features to improve your web browser experience. But Google has flipped the script on its head with the latest software tweak, which removes a feature we were pretty fond of. Yes, the latest version of Google Chrome ditches the ability to force websites to support dark mode – even if they haven’t updated the visuals to the trendy, gloomy new appearance.

Although the option was never available in the main menu in Google Chrome, the developers had clearly put a lot of work into the feature. Activated by the flag system, the option – known as Force Dark – switched plain white backgrounds to black, tweaked font colours to make sure everything stayed legible and adjusted the way websites displayed images and a few other fiddly elements to make sure everything still looked good.

Alas, it seems Google has shelved the project. According to Android Police, the flags for Force Dark Mode have been removed from the latest Chrome beta version. That’s a pretty good indication that Google will strip-out the option in the next major update to the web browser, which accounts for more than 60 percent of all desktop browser traffic worldwide.
