Princess Beatrice, 31, has married Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, 37, in an intimate ceremony in Windsor today. Pictures of the newlyweds have yet to be released, so it is not yet known which tiara she chose for her special day – these are the most likely options.
The Triumph of Love
Given the name of this piece, it is a surprise it hasn’t been worn by a royal bride before. The Queen Mother was gifted the Triumph of Love as part of a parure which included a necklace, brooch and earrings by King George V when she married his son, the then Duke of York, in 1923.
The Duchess of York did wear the piece, but it was never one of her favourites, and she gave it to her daughter Princess Margaret as a 21st birthday present in 1951. Margaret did love it, and wore it to many white-tie events along with the rest of the set.
It is not known where the tiara is now, with speculation that like the Lotus Flower, it was returned to the royal collection rather than left to her children.
Beatrice could have chosen this piece and made it her “something blue”.

Strathmore Rose
Worn by Beatrice’s great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, this delicate floral piece would fit in well with her quirky style. The tiara’s name comes from the Queen Mother’s family, as she was the daughter of the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.
Her parents bought this diadem in 1923 from Catchpole & Williams as a wedding gift, and it was well suited for the society life of a young Duchess – she became the Duchess of York on her wedding day.
Made in the late C19th, the flowers are removable, and can be worn as brooches. They could also originally be swapped for five collet-set sapphires. The diadem has two frames – one for wearing low on the forehead, which is how Elizabeth wore it most, and one for wearing on the head.
Elizabeth was the only person to have worn this piece in public, and even then only while she was the Duchess of York, and it has not been seen since a 2002 exhibition at the V&A museum.

Queen Mary’s Sapphire Bandeau
Reportedly owned originally by Marie Feodorovna, Empress of Russia, and sold at auction to Queen Mary in 1921, this stunning diamond and sapphire piece has not been seen on a royal in many decades.
The trend for royal brides recently is to wear a tiara not seen in some years, making this an obvious choice for Beatrice.
Featuring a dazzling central sunray design, the massive sapphire at the apex of this tiara is removable and can be worn as a brooch.
Princess Margaret was a fan of this diadem, wearing it often in the 50s and 60s. It is now in the Queen’s collection, although she has never been seen in it publicly.
The Cartier Bracelet Bandeau
Owned by the Queen Mother, it was a regular of hers during the early years of her marriage to the Duke of York.
Classically Art Deco in style, the subtle nature of this piece may have appealed to Beatrice for her low-key wedding.
The Duke of York, later King George VI, bought his wife a set of bracelets from Cartier, each with its own gemstones. One had sapphires, one emeralds, one rubies, and two all diamonds. The bandeau is made up of three of these worn together on a frame.
Both the tiara and bracelets belong to the Queen, who has been photographed in the latter but not the diadem.
