Liverpool went knocking on Real Sociedad’s door for Xabi Alonso back in 2004 and 20 years on it may be time for them to do so again.
The former midfielder, now 38, is in charge of the La Liga side’s B team and has been talked up as having the potential to be the next Pep Guardiola.
Alonso showed his football intelligence during his playing days at Sociedad, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
And, one day, he might end up putting that nous to good use to lead the Reds into a new post-Klopp era.
