‘He came carrying an injury and now he is starting to get back to fitness and now he is the star of this Arsenal defence.’

The former Arsenal and Chelsea full-back then went on to explain the characteristics he believes make Tierney, who was man-of-the-match, so impressive.

Cole went on: ‘He has top qualities, he can play into the striker, join attacks well, he has the quality of pass and he can defend in 1v1 defence.

‘He doesn’t like to get beat, he isn’t happy when crosses go in so I think for Arsenal he is a great player. He can improve but so far he has been brilliant.’

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given Arsenal the lead in the 21st minute of the game at the Emirates.

But Eddie Nketiah saw red four minutes after coming on as a substitute and Leicester took advantage.

Jamie Vardy’s 22nd goal of the Premier League season earned the Foxes a point after a lengthy VAR check ruled that he was not offside when converting Demarai Gray’s cross.
