The US presidential election is due to take place later this year, and rap superstar Kanye West has now put himself forward for the top job. As the US celebrated Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, Mr West took to Twitter to announce his plans.
Mr West wrote: “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future.
“I am running for president of the United States #2020VISION”
Mr West’s announcement was met with some high-profile support.
Kim Kardashian West reposted her husband’s post with a US flag emoji.

As of 2020, Kanye West is a billionaire, with Forbes valuing his wealth as $1.3billion.
However, it has been reported that Mr West has valued his wealth at $3.3billion.
While Mr West has had a highly successful career as a rapper, he has also made his mark on the fashion industry with his brand Yeezy.
Mr West’s Yeezy brand has now entered into a multi-year partnership with clothing giant Gap.
Mark Breitbard, global head of Gap Brand, said in a press release about the partnership: “We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his YEEZY brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership.”
Donald Trump is the first billionaire president in US history.
As of 2020, Forbes estimates Mr Trump’s wealth to be $2.1billion.
Earlier in the year, Forbes reported Mr Trump’s wealth to be $3.1billion, but estimated he had lost $1billion due to the pandemic.
