Man Utd target Jack Grealish ‘would be joining as substitute’ because of two players

Manchester United target Jack Grealish has been warned he’ll only be moving to Old Trafford to play second fiddle to the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba. The Aston Villa star is a top transfer target for the Red Devils as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots a path to Premier League title glory next season. Yet Eric Djemba-Djemba has expressed a concern regarding the 24-year-old.

Manchester United have seen their need for a playmaker diminish following the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, who has flourished since his January move from Sporting Lisbon.

Despite that, however, Express Sport understands they’re still hoping to add Grealish to their squad when the transfer window reopens.

Yet Djemba-Djemba has warned the Aston Villa star he may have to settle for being a substitute because of Fernandes and Paul Pogba’s excellent form.

He told BettingApps.com: “I think that Fernandes and Pogba are both a lot better than him, so he would be joining as a substitute.

“He would struggle to start over (Marcus) Rashford, (Anthony) Martial or (Mason) Greenwood as well, but he would definitely be a good signing.

“I think that it’s more important to bring in a world class striker though.”

“If United were willing to spend so much on Martial, they should definitely go and spend £100m on Harry Kane. He would be worth it.”

Should Grealish join as expected, he’d be another attacking option for the Red Devils.

And the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira may struggle for game time should the Villa star sign on the dotted line.

Speaking recently, meanwhile, Solskjaer admitted he was unsure as to how much he’d have to spend in the transfer market this summer.

“I think the pandemic has hit everyone really hard,” said the Norwegian.

“I still think we need to wait and see how things are panning out to know the real effects of the pandemic, to know what kind of financial state we are in.

“You see some teams invest, some teams don’t.

“We’ll have to take a big look at things ourselves to see how hard we’ve been hit. I know the club has announced a few numbers before.

“It’s not for me to say here now we are going to have X amount because I don’t really know.

“I don’t really know how hard we have been hit. We are a financially strong club, but we are also probably being hit more than anybody else.

“Let’s see how quickly we can get our fans back into the stadium and of course the league position is going to be important for us this season. If we can get a trophy, the FA Cup or the Europa League.

“The Europa League will also qualify us for the Champions League, there’s still a lot of uncertainty and these three or four months, every businessman in the world, every footballer in the world, I think everyone is still unsure what the effect will be.”
