Costa Coffee open: Will Costa Coffee reopen?

Costa Coffee is one of Britain’s favourite coffee shops, with a range of coffees, sandwiches and cakes for that afternoon treat. However, your local store may have been closed for several months now due to the lockdown measures in place.

Costa had to close in line with the Government’s lockdown rules – with all stores closing as strict measures swept the UK.

This meant for many your daily coffee had to be enjoyed at home rather than on the go.

With the UK slowly getting back on track, stores are beginning to open – and from July 4, pubs, bars and restaurants will be able to seat and serve customers.

But what does this mean for Costa Coffee?

Social distancing and safety measures are in place in stores, and Costa said in a statement: “For those yet to visit a newly re-opened takeaway store, they will look and feel quite different”.

Detailing the changes to stores Costa CEO Jill McDonald revealed:

The number of customers entering a store at one time will be restricted depending on the store size.

Clear floor signage will ask customers to support all social distancing guidelines when queuing both inside and outside the store.

Once inside there will be a hand sanitiser station for customers to use and only one customer will be allowed to the counter at a time, which have been fitted with Perspex screens.

To maintain a contactless service, Costa will currently only accept contactless payment and won’t be able to accept physical Coffee Club cards.

Customers can still collect and redeem loyalty points using the Costa app.

Costa are accepting reusable cups in stores and rewarding those customers with a 25p discount on any handcrafted drink.

Customers can also order drinks and food via Uber Eats, as long as there is a store in your order which delivers.

New hatches have been installed to drive-thru windows which will reduce contact between customers and staff.

The statement continued: “With all drive-thru lanes now open across drive-thru sites, bespoke one of a kind serving hatches have been designed for Costa Coffee to ensure customers can collect their order with no contact.

“These cleverly designed hatches, which lower items from the service hatch down to customer’s vehicles, have a built-in acrylic hygiene screen to provide maximum protection for both customers and Costa Coffee team members.”
