Saturday Kitchen viewers baffled as BBC show hit by major technical blunder: 'Is it me?'

Matt Tebbutt welcomed Rebecca Front onto Saturday Kitchen this morning, during which the actress discussed the new BBC show The Other One. In the usual fashion, Matt asked his guest to name some ingredients she had stored away in her cupboards and the host came up with two delicious dish ideas. However, when viewers were asked to vote on which dish they’d like to see prepared, they were exposed to a technical blunder.

After introducing the actress, Matt said: “At the end of the show I will be cooking your choice of dish using the ingredients Rebecca’s got at home, so Rebecca let’s talk through these ingredients.”

“Well we stocked up on loads of tinned goods at the beginning of lockdown like people did,” she replied.

“We’ve got lots of tins of beans, cannellini beans, kidney beans, lots of those in the pantry.”

“Ras El Hanout, cause that just spices things up a bit. Some tomatoes and some garlic and some bulgar wheat, which I’m a very big fan of. Do your worst,” Rebecca added.

Saturday Kitchen’s Matt asked fans of the show to choose between stuffed tomatoes and Middle Eastern style beans.

“I could go retro and make a stuffed tomato, bringing back the 70s,” Matt revealed.

“Stuffed tomatoes with toasted bulgur wheat, roasted red peppers, beans, tuna flakes. I’m going to bake it until it’s browned.

“Served with a generous drizzle of olive and basil dressing, serve it with some fresh basil leaves.”

“No way to vote on your link, but option two has made me think, this is the best choice to cook, for the Saturday Kitchen history book!” a second wrote.

“Option two, please. The voting button doesn’t appear to work,” another shared.

“The website isn’t giving you the option to vote,” a fourth complained.

Later in the show, Matt addressed the technical blunder and assured viewers he would let them know as soon as the voting system was working.

Viewers were relieved the blunder had been acknowledged as one tweeted: “Thanks Matt, thought I was doing something wrong.”

With over half an hour left of voting time, Saturday Kitchen tweeted: “Good news! The vote is back up and running.”

Matt shared the news with viewers and later revealed the Middle Eastern style beans had been chosen as the winning dish.

Saturday Kitchen continues Saturday on BBC One at 10am.
