Man City manager Pep Guardiola willing to give Liverpool Premier League guard of honour

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is happy to give Liverpool a guard of honour when the two teams meet in next month’s Premier League fixture. The Reds are set to become champions of England for the first time in 30 years.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit have a 25-point advantage over the Sky Blues and need just two more wins to guarantee the title.

Liverpool will build an unassailable lead if they beat Everton and Crystal Palace before the July 2 clash against City, which is due to be held at the Etihad Stadium.

It is tradition for the new champions to be given a guard of honour to acknowledge their achievement, although the ceremony is not compulsory.

Despite a rivalry between the two teams due to their dominance in recent years, the Daily Star claim City are open to congratulating Liverpool’s players.

City’s home clash against Liverpool could take place away from the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City Council’s safety advisory group are set to decide whether the stadium can stage the clash.

While the neutral grounds proposal was vetoed by Premier League clubs, a number of games have been identified as high risk and could take place away from home grounds.

The Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool on June 21 was highlighted as a potential concern.

It will take place at Goodison Park, however, after Liverpool City Council’s safety advisory group approved a certificate for the game to go ahead at the Toffees’ home group.
