Macron on the brink as French President loses support as country eases lockdown

The number of new cases in the country has continued to drop as the amount of additional deaths has been its lowest since March. The country’s health authorities this week said there were only 933 patients in intensive care with coronavirus across France which is significantly lower than it 7,148 peak in April.

Lockdown was first brought in on 17 March in France and phase two of easing lockdown restrictions began on 2 June.

This included an end to the 100km travel limit and allowed bars and restaurants to reopen in the green zone.

In the orange zone, which Paris is in, outside areas of restaurants and cafes have also been able to reopen.

The French government introduced green, orange and red zones to demonstrate the most affected areas of Covid-19 infections and to show how the country can ease out of lockdown.

He said: “Paris is not yet what it used to be before the pandemic.”

Mr Edin explained how in the capital not that many people are in the restaurant’s outdoor spaces which would usually be very busy on sunny days.

It is now mandatory to wear face masks in France on public transport, even though President Emmanuel Macron originally said masks were unnecessary.

Mr Edin continued: “Some schools are completely closed, some schools are willing to open one day a week, two days a week, some schools can take maybe 15 kids in their class, others only take five.”

This has caused problems for parents with children between the ages of five and ten years old Mr Edin explains.

He highlighted how parents are worried because “they are supposed to go back to work but how do you to go back to work if your kids are not in school?”.

France is set to lift its state of emergency on 10 July but Mr Edin points out that the country is ready to lift the disposition now as they receive more positive news every day.

So far there have been 29,374 recorded deaths in hospitals and care homes due to coronavirus.

There have been 156 thousand cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Almost 72,000 people diagnosed with Covid-19 have reportedly recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

Emmanuel Macron is set to address the nation on Sunday evening.

This will be the first time since the end of April, when the French President initially announced that lockdown would be eased, that he has made a national address.

President Macron is reportedly expected to address the approaching economic emergency with a plan to help emerge the country from the crisis.
