This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman responded to the news personally on his own Twitter account, and described the young writer, who worked on the show during season two from 2017-2018, as “brilliant”.
“This news took my breath away,” he wrote.
“Jas was absolutely brilliant and had so many stories still to tell. She made an indelible mark on our show and my heart breaks for her loved ones. RIP @JasFly.”
Waters has wracked up multiple screenwriting credits over her career, with many extending beyond her time at NBC.
Her work includes VH1 series The Breaks, Comedy Central’s Hood Adjacent with James Davis, Hardball, Save The Last Dance, MTV’s Real World, Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, and NBC’s ER.
