It’s been a difficult year for the music industry, especially concert festivals and other entertainment industry shows. The New York Post reported on another devastating blow to the business, when Coachella’s organizers revealed this year’s event would be postponed until next year.
As it was previously reported, Coachella rescheduled their April dates to October on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, a new report from Billboard says that Coachella 2020 won’t go down as planned at all anymore.
An internal memo obtained by Billboard revealed that the parent company of Coachella, Goldenvoice, and AEG, fired approximately 15% of their workforce and also issued big pay cuts. Their memo stated that it was apparent that events such as Coachella wouldn’t resume until the following year.
The AEG CEO, Dan Beckerman, said in his statement that once they’re finally allowed to begin normal practices, it’s going to take a long time for their sponsors, partners, and fans, to finally return. It’s not clear what’s going to happen to the festival.

The memo read that they might put on a show in April 2021 in a smaller form, or simply resume their festival at full capacity in October 2021. This past year, Coachella was supposed to feature the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean, across two weeks in April.
The lineup this year also featured the likes of Lana Del Ray, 21 Savage, Thom Yorke, Megan Thee Stallion, and many others. It’s not clear who will host the festival next year. As it was previously reported, Coachella postponed their event back in March due to the coronavirus.
They pushed the dates back to October and told their fans and ticket-holders that they were either going to get a refund, or they could be redeemed this year during the now-canceled October dates.

As it was noted above, Coachella isn’t the only festival that had to cease operations this year. Stagecoach Festival, SXSW, and Ultra Music Festival were also shut down as well. The coronavirus had the same effect on films, TV shows, and Broadway plays.
