League Two season curtailed after clubs vote as Swindon to be crowned champions

League Two clubs have voted in favour of curtailing the 2019/20 season, according to Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince.

Vince wrote on Twitter: “The question of whether to play out our season or quit has just been voted on.

“Only one vote in favour of playing on (FGR) surprised by that. So L2 season is done.

“Shame, but we’ll focus on the new one, whenever that comes and in whatever shape it take.”

Swindon will, therefore, be crowned champions on an unweighted points-per-game formula. The Robins are currently second in the table, level on points with Crewe Alexandra, with a game in hand.

League Two and League One clubs voted on whether to continue playing on Tuesday after the EFL’s 71 clubs voted on proposals for finalising the table if the season could not be completed.

In addition to the unweighted points-per-game formula, it was decided promotion and relegation would continue, while the number of teams qualifying for the play-offs would not be increased.

Crewe and Plymouth Argyle will join Swindon in promotion to League One.

Cheltenham will face Northampton while Exeter will play Colchester in the play-offs.

Stevenage face relegation to the National League depending on the severity of a points deduction facing Macclesfield.
