Top Gun: Maverick Will Finish Post-Production On Time Director Claims

A new report from Collider revealed that even though the new Top Gun film, Maverick, was postponed until later this year, it will still be completed on time. The director of the anticipated sequel revealed earlier this week that the movie was going to wrap on time.

Collider claims the film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, has been working on the rest of the movie from home and making sure everything goes as planned. As most know, the film industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

Top Gun: Maverick isn’t the only movie affected by the pandemic. Films like No Time To Die were also postponed until later this year, although, Daniel Craig continued with some of his promotional plans before the pandemic really took over, including when he starred on SNL alongside The Weeknd as his musical guest.

During an interview with Comic Book’s website, Top Gun 2‘s director shared that much of the movie was completed by the time the coronavirus pandemic really began. They were far along in the post-production phase when the federal government began ordering a lockdown.

The director shared with the outlet that he feels very lucky to have been able to complete the final steps of the movie – all from the comfort of his own home.

Regarding the film’s release, the director explained that once it’s finished, they have plans to hold on to it for another six months, which is quite odd and not normally done that way.

A big part of the decision to release the film 6 months following its completion is to account for the fact that movie-goers must see it on the big screen. It’s the type of film that most viewers want to see in the theatres, and not on a streaming service.

Regardless of its release date, the film will come out around the same time as other big movies, including No Time To Die, which will be released approximately one month prior, in November. Maverick is scheduled to hit theaters on the 23rd of December, 2020.
